Juniors from Plymouth High School listen to a presentation on careers in heavy equipment repair and maintenance from Haywood Broome, lead instructor in BCCC’s Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology/Agricultural Systems. The students from Plymouth attended Career Fair on Friday, Oct. 1. Plymouth High School Junior Delisa Belcher said she was particularly interested in learning more about careers in nursing and cosmetology. “I had thought about a career in business, but seeing these programs made me change my mind.” Plymouth High School Counselor Carroll Hurdle said the event was a valuable way to expose students to careers and technologies that they may not have seen before. “This should encourage them to go to school to pursue well-paying careers,” he said. “I wish all of our students could see what is available here.”

Debra Fry, a junior at Washington High School, pictured at left in photo #13) hopes one day to become a marine biologist. But she said that studying welding might lead to a well-paying job that could provide the income she will need to pursue and advanced degree. “I like the hands-on work that a welding career will give me,” she said. “And the income from a welding job would help me continue my studies.”
