Financial Need
The annual average cost of tuition, books, and fees for a full-time BCCC student is $1900. Last year approximately, 35 percent of the curriculum students enrolled at BCCC received some form of financial assistance, compared with a state average of 48 percent. Student Success Associate degree holders who transferred to a UNC institution averaged a 2.7 grade point average after two semesters in the university, compared to a 2.5 GPA for students who started out at the university. Approximately 81 percent of last year's BCCC graduates have secured jobs in, or related to, their field of study. One hundred percent of BCCC's Associate Degree Nursing students passed state boards on their first attempt each year from 1989 to 1997. A 100 percent passing rate on state boards for eight consecutive years is a state record among both community college and university graduates. Economic Impact Last year, BCCC provided Emergency Medical Service training for 550 rescue workers and 825 firemen in its service area. More than 40 percent of all police officers in Beaufort, Hyde, Tyrrell and Washington counties received Basic Law Enforcement training from BCCC. Within the last year, more than 3,800 employees from area companies, businesses, and industries have acquired new skills through BCCC that have improved their productivity and helped our regions economy grow in the face of international competition. North Carolina community college graduates earn hourly wages an average of 13 percent more than high school graduates with similar years of work experience. This translates into increased tax revenues, sales, and a higher quality of life. North Carolina community college graduates between the ages of 25 and 29 earn starting salaries approximately 10 percent higher than university graduates. The economic impact of Beaufort County Community College is estimated to yield annually: more than 400 jobs in the service area, a return of more than $10,294,268 in direct and indirect area business, and $16.98 of economic return for every $1.00 spent in Beaufort County. .
